What is Reiki?
Reiki is an ancient healing art that was used for thousands
of years in the Orient. It was rediscovered in the 1800s by
the Head Master of a Christian school in Japan, Dr Mikao Usui,
when he was dumbfounded by a question from a student asking
if he could demonstrate how it was that Jesus could heal the
sick by laying on of hands. Neither he, nor any of his fellow
theologians could answer the question so he resigned his position
and went on a quest to find the answer. After many years of
research, a way was finally revealed to him and the current
systems have re-emerged.

How does it work?
Reiki works by helping your body to restore the natural
flow of energy inside it. In the Orient this energy is known
as Ki, Qi or Chi. This is the same energy that is stimulated
during an Acupuncture or Shiatsu session, or during Tai Chi
or Yoga. In those cases your existing energy is stimulated
from within. With Reiki or Qi Gong in addition to the internal
restoration and stimulation of Ki there is a further application
of new energy as well. This is why Reiki is beneficial in
chronic conditions where the person's energies have been depleted
and they need to be built back up again. This is also why
Reiki is so beneficial to those in high stress or high performance
jobs or sports. Not only can it be used to replenish the tired
or depleted… but it can also be used in advance to restore
balance and to invigorate the body to improve performance
as well.

How many sessions are necessary?
This varies greatly from person to person as each condition
is unique. Some people have had complete relief with one or
two session. Others with chronic conditions may require multiple
sessions over many months. In all cases, you are the one who
decides. The effects of Reiki are cumulative, with each successive
session building on the effects from the last.

Where does the energy come from?
The translation of name Reiki (Rei and Ki) is "Universal
Life Energy". Unlike Tai Chi or Qi Gong, which draw the Ki
from the environment around them, Reiki practitioners are
trained and attuned to connect directly with the "Universal
Life Energy" and allow it to pass through them untainted by
the practitioner's influences and/or energies. Thus Reiki
is on of the purest, and safest, forms of energy work available.

How long does a session take?
Normally we schedule for one hour, however, shorter and longer
session have been done based upon the client's needs.

What happens to me during a
session?
What do I have to do? You need to do nothing more than rest
in a comfortable position for the duration of the session.
You will sit or lay, fully clothed, in a chair or on a massage
table, while the practitioner does the work. The practitioner
will move their hands over you to various position holding
them there for several minutes allowing the energy or Ki to
flow into your body. Often this can be done without even touching
the body, but sometimes, and only with your permission will
the practitioner actually rest their hands on an affected
area to maximize the flow of Ki to that location. Some people
actually fall asleep during a session and afterwards most
people feel a profound sense of peace and relaxation that
may last for several days.
